Humidity control for drying compressed air in food production: FAQs

Why is drying compressed air important in food production?

Drying compressed air is vital in food production as it is critical in operating many types of plant machinery. If the compressed air in your technology is too humid, it can gradually corrode components and pipework, leading to:

  • Electrical malfunctions

  • Leaks and fractures

  • Dangerous mould growth

Over time, this can harm the efficiency of your food production and eventually cause failures. When these happen, the resulting downtime and repairs can cost your organisation dearly.

Using a suitable dehumidification system in your equipment minimises the risk of this damage, extending the longevity of your apparatus and the consistency of your operations.

What types of dehumidifiers are used for drying compressed air in food production?

In food production, we recommend using commercial desiccant dehumidifiers or industrial dryers to dry compressed air. These solutions are effective across a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels, making them adaptable to any environment.

At Dantherm Group, our sophisticated range of desiccant dehumidifiers offers several additional benefits:

  • Units are constructed in Europe using energy-efficient components for optimal performance

  • We have a wide selection of stationary and portable options to choose from

  • Air direction is configurable for targeted dehumidification

  • Our dehumidifiers are easy to maintain and position with their space-saving construction

  • The technology we sell is equipped with manifold functions and extensive features as standard

  • Our systems are configurable to any application with a wide range of accessories

How dry should the environment be when using compressed air?

In most circumstances, the relative humidity (RH) should be no higher than 50%. Below 50% RH, the risk of corrosion is extremely low.

A relative humidity value of 50% means that the moisture content of the air is half the maximum it could contain. When humid air reaches its dew point, it is 100% saturated with water, and condensation forms when the temperature drops.

If you need help determining the drying solutions you need to maintain the ideal air quality around your plant, talk to our experts in food and beverage climate control.

How do your high-performance dehumidifiers work in compressed air systems?

Our desiccant dehumidifiers draw humid air into the unit, where moisture is absorbed into the desiccant materials within the fans. With all excess moisture captured, dry air flows back into the atmosphere, reducing the risk of condensation.

This drying process ensures that water vapour cannot cause corrosion in your equipment, minimising the chances of mechanical failures.

Does drying compressed air improve product quality in food production?

Effective drying of compressed air in your equipment helps keep your plant and machinery running smoothly, resulting in more consistent output from your facilities.

In addition, with more comprehensive humidity control on your sites, you can improve product quality through better contamination prevention and air quality.

What are the signs of inadequate moisture removal in compressed air systems?

Signs of inadequate moisture removal include standing water, signs of rust and corrosion, inconsistent performance of your machinery and defects in foodstuffs.

How energy-efficient are your dehumidification solutions?

At Dantherm Group, we are committed to engineering the most energy-efficient dehumidifiers in the market. Employing advanced components and heat recovery technology as standard, our solutions ensure that you can maintain complete condensation control in your facilities while keeping energy costs to a minimum.

Can I buy your humidity control technology for the food and beverage industry online?

We don’t make our dehumidifiers available to purchase online to ensure that every system we design, manufacture and supply fits your exact requirements. By taking a consultative approach with a highly-trained expert, we make sure that you are only recommended equipment that meets your needs – and fulfils these in the most efficient, cost-effective way possible.

Across all of our products, VAT-registered companies can get a quote very quickly by pressing 'I want to buy' and inserting your enquiry and contact details.

How soon can you supply your humidity control solutions to my food production plant?

This varies on a case-by-case basis. For some standard products, accessories and consumables, we can provide day-to-day delivery. For larger orders or more bespoke dehumidifiers and drying solutions, there may be a longer lead time.

By reaching out to our experts we can put you in touch with your nearest local supplier so you can receive the products you require in the most timely manner possible.

Do you sell your dehumidifiers for food production sites to private consumers?

No. Dantherm Group’s humidity control systems are only sold to industry professionals directly from our offices, or via our extensive network of distributors.
