Why choose container coolers?

Our container coolers are purpose-built for military and humanitarian applications. In contemporary military and humanitarian operations, containers serve more purposes than merely transporting goods. Although they resemble standard shipping containers on the outside, their interiors can be adapted for use as command centres, housing critical electronic systems, field hospitals, or workshops.

The containers are well-suited for transport to isolated locations but are vulnerable to temperature fluctuations, which can become hazardous. To ensure that both equipment and personnel function optimally in critical situations, it is essential to implement mechanical climate control to maintain a safe and comfortable environment.

Under extreme conditions, conventional ventilation systems are inadequate. Climate control units for containers used in combat zones and disaster areas must be rugged and resilient to ensure uninterrupted high-capacity cooling and heating. Moreover, depending on application, the units must sometimes be effectively sealed to prevent contamination from chemical attacks.

All container AC units at Dantherm are rigorously tested in the toughest possible conditions to guarantee they can deliver efficient, effective climate control at all times. Manufactured from hot dip galvanised and powder coated stainless steel sheets, our air conditioners can be relied upon to deliver cooling in some of the hottest locations across the globe.

In combination with our trap door systems, our container coolers can be stored within the containers during transportation or storage, ready to deploy at any time. This saves on space and makes mobilising containers much more efficient, which is invaluable for military operations frequently on the move.

Furthermore, we provide container coolers that function with no fresh-air intake, in order to meet CBRN/COLPRO compliance requirements. Our range has been adopted as a NATO standard and this has made us a preferred supplier of field deployable mobile air cooling units for military and humanitarian field camps for over 20 years.

As a bonus, our container coolers can also be used for heating.

Container coolers: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a container cooler?

A container cooler (also known as a container chiller), is a long-term solution to keep temperatures and humidity optimal in shipping containers and similar storage units.

Our durable and resilient models are used to keep equipment and personnel at safe temperatures in the field, for instance when they are used as command and communication posts, field hospitals or other military or humanitarian purposes. Although they are called container coolers, they can also provide heating when required.

How does a container cooler work?

This will vary depending on the precise model of container cooler. For example, our AC-M10 cooler is based on a cooling circuit with two powerful, energy-efficient fans. The evaporator section cycles warm internal air from the shelter through the cold evaporator core, expelling cooled air through its discharge grill.

Meanwhile, the condenser, situated outside the container, moves heat from the internal area out into the outdoors.

Our container coolers come either with or without fresh-air intake. The models without fresh-air intake are CBRN/COLPRO compliant. This, alongside the significant cooling potential of our units (effective in temperatures as great as 60ºC) and their ruggedness in all climates and terrains has made Dantherm Group the NATO standard for these coolers, conforming to all requirements and norms.

What are the benefits of using a container cooler?

In military and humanitarian operations, high (and low) temperatures can spoil perishable goods, damage equipment and affect the health of personnel and patients. The right container cooler prevents these outcomes, keeping the interior climate safe and functional for longer in hot or cold climates.

Furthermore, choosing a CBRN/COLPRO compliant container cooler is critical in areas where there is a risk of chemical warfare.

At Dantherm Group, the resilience, build quality and ease-of-use of our container coolers sets us apart, which is why we are trusted to support NATO operations worldwide.

Are these container coolers CBRN/COLPRO compliant?

At Dantherm Group, we supply container coolers that operate with no need for fresh-air intake, allowing them to comply with CBRN/COLPRO standards. Our range is a NATO standard, and we have been the preferred supplier of field deployable mobile air cooling units for military and humanitarian field camps for over 20 years.

Be aware that not all container coolers are CBRN/COLPRO compliant. Speak to our experts at Dantherm Group to ensure that you are supplied with the right cooler for your specifications.

What type of container cooler should I use?

This will depend on a variety of factors, including the type and size of container you use, and the nature of the goods and equipment that are stored inside it.

Our decades of expertise in the design, engineering and testing of these units means we are perfectly placed to advise on the ideal container cooler for your needs. Speak to our experts and we’ll help you find the right model and put you in touch with your nearest local supplier.

What safety precautions should be taken when using a container cooler?

Before installing or using any container cooler, it is vital to refer to the specific unit’s instruction manual and speak to a highly trained expert, such as our team at Dantherm Group. This will make you aware of the safety precautions required for each specific product, ensuring that you can use it to the greatest effect without any challenges.

Can a container cooler also control humidity levels?

No, Dantherm Group container coolers do not control humidity levels, instead they focus on cooling and ventilation. For more information on effective dehumidification solutions for military ISO containers, reach out to our dedicated experts.
