Grupo Día eliminates mist and ice in freezer rooms with adsorption dehumidifiers

The challenge

In the pursuit of optimal quality and adherence to strict cold chain controls, Grupo Día encountered a common issue in logistics centres – warm air from loading docks moving into the freezer rooms. Although there is an antechamber between the dock and the chamber with controlled temperatures between 5ºC and 8ºC, it is not enough. Therefore, the result was mist, condensation, ice formation and slippery floors, jeopardising worker safety, causing equipment breakages, and hindering efficient picking processes. The challenge was to eliminate the issues and create a controlled environment in the freezer rooms at temperatures as low as -25ºC.

BEFORE THE UPGRADE

The solution

Dantherm Group's team of engineers conducted a thorough analysis of Grupo Día's logistics centre and proposed a turnkey solution utilising adsorption dehumidification technology. The chosen product, the TTR 1400 adsorption dehumidifier, offered the unique capability to reach dew points below -25ºC, preventing the formation of ice and mist. The technology, featuring a desiccant rotor and energy recovery, was tailored to the specific needs of Grupo Día's freezer rooms.

The installation process was seamlessly coordinated to ensure minimal disruption to the daily operations of the logistics platform. Additionally, a recommended SAS (airlock) was integrated to reduce the size of the dehumidifier, subsequently minimising power consumption and the overall investment.
